Job Description

Summary: The Incentive Compensation Governance Manager is responsible for managing the design, performance analysis, governance, and risk management of incentive compensation plans in alignment with best practices, guidelines, and the enterprise governance framework for sound plan design.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide subject matter expertise and innovation on the design of new or revised incentive compensation plans and Special Performance Incentives in collaboration with business segment leaders and cross-functional plan design partners to ensure they align with best practices, meet business objectives, are financially sound, and appropriately balance risk
  • Develop, document, implement, and monitor incentive compensation policies and practices to ensure effective governance of incentive plans
  • Manage the annual incentive plan design, evaluation, and approval process, including the development of the timeline, communications, key deliverables and materials, and the facilitation of the review meetings with executive leadership
  • Assist in the preparation of executive level materials to be shared with the Incentive Compensation Oversight Committee (ICOC), ICOC Working Group, and Compensation Committee regarding the management of incentive compensation for the enterprise
  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with the business segment leaders, Compensation Consultants, HR Business Partners, Finance, Risk, and Audit
  • Facilitate annual risk-related processes, including the identification process and reporting of Material Risk Takers in partnership with Risk, as well as the incentive plan risk assessment in partnership with Risk, the Plan Administrators, and the Compensation Consultants
  • Evaluate and review the effectiveness of incentive compensation plans through incentive analytics, modeling, and scenario testing to ensure sound plan design
  • Serve as a point of contact for Audit and Risk during internal audits and compliance testing of internal controls related to incentive compensation policies, practices, and procedures
  • Keep abreast of industry and functional best practices pertaining to incentive compensation and ensure that Huntington complies with compensation-related regulations (Interagency Guidance on Sound Incentive Compensation Practices, Dodd-Frank Act, SEC, etc.)
  • Participate in the preparation of internal and external disclosures and/or responses to federal regulatory agencies related to incentive compensation practices
  • Act as a mentor to less experienced colleagues
  • Other duties and special projects as assigned

 Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 5 years of consulting or corporate experience in compensation, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance, Risk and / or Audit

 Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field required
  • Incentive plan design and governance expertise, preferably in the banking/financial services industry or equivalent consulting experience
  • Strong strategic, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to consult, influence, and build strong relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to lead organizational change efforts
  • Financial acumen with a focus on business performance results and financial reporting
  • Proven success in a fast-paced environment with the ability to act with a sense of urgency
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Aptitude for strong data analysis
  • Advanced technical skills in Microsoft Excel, Access, and PowerPoint
  • Strong writing skills with the focus on developing executive level communications
  • Focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Working knowledge and understanding of regulatory and legal issues related to incentive compensation
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) and Certified Sales Compensation Professional (CSCP) credentials preferred
